Dr Shiraz Hassen has been working as a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist on the Sunshine Coast for the last eight years.
He did his graduate medical degree at the North Colombo Medical College in Sri Lanka. He qualified with Second Class Honours and the Gold Medal for the Best Medical Graduate in 1990. He went to New Zealand for his post-graduate studies and did his Physician and Gastroenterology training in New Zealand. He obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2005.
Dr Hassen worked as a locum Gastroenterologist at the Auckland City Hospital. He then worked for four years as Physician, Gastroenterologist and Head of Gastroenterology Department at Apollo Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd, in Colombo Sri Lanka. He moved to the Sunshine Coast in April 2009 and worked at Buderim Gastroenterology Centre and the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital. Since 2011 he has had practiced at the Ramsay Hospitals, Nambour Selangor Private Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He does both private work and public
contract patients at SCUPH.
His interests are interventional endoscopy, hepatology, general gastroenterology and capsule endoscopy.
Dr Hassen’s vision is to offer a comprehensive consultation and procedural gastroenterology service to patients on the Sunshine Coast.
In his spare time, Dr Hassen enjoys cycling, kayaking, gardening, travelling and music.
