Sun to help power Sunshine Coast’s Nambour Selangor Private Hospital
Jan 31, 2022
Nambour Selangor Private Hospital is making use of one of the ‘Sunny’ Coast’s best assets, introducing a new solar panel system to help reduce its emissions and dramatically improve its sustainability.
The 193 kilowatt (kW) system, introduced as part of Ramsay Health Care’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, will save more than 4,200 tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifespan.
Chief Executive Officer Justin Greenwell said the new system is the equivalent of taking 77 cars off the road.
“We’re excited to be moving forward with our commitment to addressing climate change through meaningful sustainability initiatives,” Mr Greenwell said.
“We live in the Sunshine State so it makes sense to use our natural resources to assist in powering our hospital, to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
“And as planned, the installation was seamless, our patients likely would not have even noticed the work going on above them.”
The solar installation is just one of the sustainability initiatives being rolled out at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital. It no longer uses plastic water bottles and is replacing single use plastic items, such as disposable cutlery, with recyclable alternatives. Since the initiative began in March 2021, this has kept almost 200,000 single use plastic items out of landfill.
Nambour Selangor Private Hospital has several sustainability initiatives planned for 2022, including an upgrade to energy efficient LED lights to further reduce its carbon footprint.
The sustainability push is part of Ramsay Health Care’s sustainability strategy which focuses on creating stronger communities, healthier people and a thriving planet.
