New Respiratory Medicine Clinic Opens at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital

Patients across the Sunshine Coast will have greater access to specialist respiratory care with the opening of a new Respiratory Medicine Clinic at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital.

Led by Respiratory and Sleep Physician Professor Amy Rigby, the new clinic provides specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of a broad range of respiratory and lung conditions, including chronic cough, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep-related breathing disorders, lung infections, interstitial lung disease and other complex respiratory conditions. 

Professor Rigby said the new clinic would improve access to specialist respiratory care for patients in the Nambour region. 

"Respiratory conditions can significantly impact a person's quality of life, making everyday activities increasingly difficult if they are not diagnosed and managed effectively," Professor Rigby said. 

"This new clinic means patients living in and around Nambour can access specialist respiratory assessment, diagnosis and ongoing care closer to home.” 

"Early intervention and personalised treatment are critical in helping people manage chronic lung disease, reduce symptoms and maintain their independence. We're pleased to be expanding access to these services for the Sunshine Coast community." 

While respiratory medicine services are available across the Sunshine Coast, the new clinic expands access to specialist respiratory care in the Nambour region. Professor Rigby also established a respiratory clinic in Noosa earlier this year, with the new Nambour service further strengthening specialist respiratory services available across the Sunshine Coast. 

In addition to the new clinic, Professor Rigby continues to lead the Respiratory Day Rehabilitation Program based at Noosa Hospital Allied Health. The multidisciplinary program supports people living with chronic respiratory conditions through supervised exercise, education, breathing techniques and self-management strategies designed to improve physical function, confidence and overall quality of life. 

Patients who may benefit from the rehabilitation program include those living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer, those recovering from thoracic surgery, and people experiencing ongoing respiratory complications following COVID-19. 

Further enhancing respiratory care across the region, Icon Cancer Centre Noosa, in partnership with Noosa Hospital Allied Health, has introduced a dedicated Lung Stream for patients undergoing radiation therapy for lung cancer. The program provides patients with integrated allied health support throughout their treatment to help improve symptom management, rehabilitation, and their physical, nutritional and psychosocial wellbeing. 

These expanded services reflect a continued commitment to providing coordinated, patient-centred respiratory care and improving access to specialist services for Sunshine Coast patients close to home.
