New Day Surgery Unit opens at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital

A $500,000 refurbishment has transformed Nambour Selangor Private Hospital on the Sunshine Coast.

The newly completed day surgery unit includes pre and post-surgical areas for patients who require minor procedures.

Nambour Selangor Private Hospital CEO Sandra Moore said: “We’re really providing best outcomes, best practice, and best care models for our community and surrounding regions.”

It’s expected up to 30 patients will benefit from the new day surgery unit each week, which will be used for specialties including gastroenterology, dental, arthroscopy, pain and minor procedures.

A decision was made to create the unit to cater for ongoing technological advances which are allowing more procedures to be done in a shorter period of time.

“With a hernia procedure, patients used to stay for one to three nights, but patients can now be discharged on the same day,” Ms Moore said.

The refurbishment also included transforming two rooms with four inpatient beds, to create four single rooms to provide added comfort for patients.

“Nobody wants to share with one person let alone three people, so we’re going to get a lot more efficiencies out of that and more personalised care, privacy, everything that comes with a single room,” Ms Moore said.

Nambour Selangor Hospital has been in operation for 72 years and is owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care.
