Nambour Selangor Private Hospital’s reputation as a leader in the provision of women’s health care services has been recognised at an international level.
The Hospital has been chosen by the United Nations Population Fund to host a visit from four very important guests from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
From Friday July 18 to Friday August 1 we will be joined by two female senior obstetricians and two female midwives from Iran who have come to the Sunshine Coast to examine the unique model of collaborative care and professional support for women’s choice in childbirth, so they can help to achieve positive improvements in maternity care in Iran.
The group from Iran will tour Nambour Selangor Private Hospital’s Maternity Service to gain a deeper appreciation of how the unique model of maternity care works.
Nambour Selangor Hospital has specifically been chosen as a model of what can be achieved by positive collaboration between midwives, obstetricians and anaesthetists in providing women centred care with a strong focus on good outcomes for mothers and their babies.
The two week learning and education program has been planned in conjunction with Nambour Selangor Private Hospital obstetric and fertility specialists, Drs Kirsten Small, Dr Ted Weaver, Dr James Orford and Dr George Bogiaitizis.
Offering women and their families true choice in childbirth, Nambour Selangor Private Hospital is one of the few hospitals in Queensland to offer options such as water birth, vaginal birth after one or more previous caesareans and natural twin birth.
Dr Kirsten Small who is responsible for teaching the special guests during their visit has recently completed her Masters of Reproductive Medicine which makes her the only Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Fertility Specialist on the Sunshine Coast with this qualification – and further enhancing her fertility specialist knowledge and experience.
“In a short period of time our Maternity Service has grown beyond our expectations to a now internationally renowned facility,” said CEO Jenny McDonald. “We have people travelling from as far a field as Singapore and the United Arab Emirates and now the Islamic Republic of Iran to observe, learn, and in some cases, to have their babies here,” she said.
Around 1000 babies are born at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital each year and with the current activity within the Hospital’s Maternity Service the arrival of the 7000th baby is not far away.
